Patricia joined Cox Communications as a Public Affairs Specialist in 2006, and was named the Public & Media Relations Manager in 2010. In this position, she serves as Cox’s local market spokesperson. She manages local media relations and crisis communications for the Acadiana market and responds to national inquiries when called upon. She oversees the public affairs budget and strategic philanthropic efforts for the six-parish Acadiana region, manages employee volunteers for Cox-sponsored events, and provides internal and external communications and special events support to projects across Cox Louisiana’s 17-parish service area and throughout the Cox Southeast Region footprint, which is comprised of Florida, Georgia and Louisiana.
In 2015, Patricia launched Cox Charities, a unique, employee-giving campaign funded via payroll deduction. Branded under the theme “Give Where You Live,” the dollars raised in each market, stay in each market. In the last two years, Cox Charities has donated upwards of $250,000 to teachers and nonprofits throughout the Cox Southeast Region.
During her time at Cox, Patricia has developed and executed several award-winning public relations campaigns, including competitive plans and the company’s first, nationwide social media presence, to successfully engage target audiences.
Prior to joining Cox, Patricia served as Events Coordinator and Fundraiser for the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, now One Acadiana. Before working for the Chamber, she was the Community Relations Director for the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana (PASA).
Patricia received a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2002 as a cum laude graduate. She was a member of Class XXI of Leadership Lafayette and was named one of the “Top 20 Under 40” by Lafayette’s Daily Advertiser in 2007.
An active member of her community, Patricia is a founding member of both the Public Relations Association of Louisiana – Acadiana Chapter and the705. She serves on the board of directors for Healing House: Hope for Grieving Children, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana and is the vice-chairperson for United Way’s Women United. She’s previously served as an executive board member for the Acadiana Center for the Arts and The705. She is a former board member of the Acadiana Advertising Federation, the Kiwanis Club of Acadiana and Junior Achievement of Acadiana.
A native of rural St. Landry Parish, Patricia is married to Mark Thompson. They make their home in Lafayette with their 6-year-old daughter, Eleanor Rose; 4-year-old son, Thatcher Joseph, and a cat named Sammy.
